Mossley, a small town, is located on the Tame, where the borders of Lancashire meet Cheshire. It's three miles from Ashton-under-Lyne, and nine miles from Manchester. The Huddersfield Narrow Canal runs through the town, following the Tames.
Mossley does not have a central point. The Lancashire portion, Mossley Brow is located west of the river, canal, and Market Street. The Cheshire portion, which is on the east side of the valley, and may be called Micklehurst is spread out between Station Road and Staley Road. Waggon Road crosses the Lancashire section. Roughtown is the Yorkshire part to the north on the west of the Tame.
